Main Memory

  • Main memory is the principle internal memory system of the computer system.
  •  It is also called as primary memory.
  • It is the working space used by the computer to hold the program that is currently running, along with the data it needs to process.
  • Primary is fast.
  • Primary memory is volatile in the sense that memory contents are lost when the computer is switched off.
  • Primary memory is normally made of semiconductors.
  • Primary memory is small in sixe relative to the secondary memory.
  • Main memory is attached to the processor via its address and data buses.
