Central Processing Unit (CPU)

CPU is known as the heart of computer system. The CPU circuitry of a microcomputer is called a microprocessor. CPU of a microcomputer is linked with various peripheral equipments, including input/output devices and auxiliary storage units with the help of bus.  Main task of computer is to perform computations, executes instructions and transfer information between all parts of a computer. CPU is usually mounted on the main circuit board, called the motherboard in microcomputer. CPU serves as a brain of the computer. Microcomputer (PC's) contains single-chip central processing units or microprocessor.
