Device drivers are special programs that keep care of communicating
with all the peripherals connected to the computer, like terminals, disks, tapes, printers,
etc...
There must be a special driver for each different type of peripheral connected, and
since there are so many possibilities and since each day there is new ones, you cannot
directly build them into the kernel. You need to make them a different part so as to be able
to substitute, add or remove drivers as new devices are added or old devices
are substituted or removed from tie computer and are no longer needed.
