Utility Program

These utility programs are generated lo help users in developing, writing, debugging and documenting programs. The utility programs can be categorized into:

i) File Management Utilities: These are the programs to help user in copying, erasing renaming and printing Files.
 

ii) Program Development Utilities: They are programs to help users to write and test programs.

Every computer system needs utility programs and some functions controlled by utility programs are:

• Formatting a disk.
• Displaying the contents of a disk.
• Determining the space remaining on a disk.
• Making a backup copy of the contents of a hard disk.
• Restoring the contents of a hard disk from a backup copy.
